We’ve recently received a few letters from the period of
1863-1864 in which Union soldier Mr. G.W. Hannaford (Whose rank is not
mentioned in the letters) writes to his wife and tells of the activities at a
P.O.W. camp at St. Augustine, Fl.
These few letters are absolutely amazing and provide a
glimpse into a time when communication was not instantaneous, as it is today.
It took a long time to get words to family and friends. The Civil War was such
a horrific event in our history and these letters provide a short glimpse into
the life of a soldier who’s task was to provide for the safety and security of
3,200 Confederate prisoners of war.
If you’re a collector of Civil War memorabilia, these
letters would certainly make a nice addition, but the writing is so very well
done that virtually anyone that desires a look into our past would enjoy
reading them.
Please call or e-mail for special pricing and sample photos
of the documents.
